Chile's February 27, 2010 massive 8.8 earthquake was at a depth of 35 km.

Note today's 6.9 magnitude in Chile was actually much more shallow with a depth of only 11 km.

The big quakes continue on!  The public at large is not getting the whole picture because only the destructive earthquakes are being relayed via the news media.Very high magnitude quakes are still occuring but since they are low/no damage they are not being reported.
