The eruption of Icelandic volcano, Eyjafjallajökull, shut down air traffic all over Europe and to date, it is continuing as smaller plumes have snarled traffic all the way to Turkey. Current news reveals that the volcano may continue sending ash across Europe, ceasing the flow of flights in the region potentially through the summer or longer.
"Europe's travelers ponder a summer turning to ash
DUBLIN — It's been a month now, and Iceland's volcano shows no sign it will stop belching ash across Europe anytime soon. A whole continent is rethinking its summer vacation plans — and struggling airlines are wondering how to cope in the cloud of uncertainty."

This eruption of Eyjafjallajökull is wreaking economic havoc on the airline industry as well as the many businesses that depend on it. This aspect alone could cause the collapse of the global economy.
Respiratory ailments that may ensue across the hemisphere as a result of the silica in the ash plumes are a very real possiblity, so Eyjafjallajökull is capable of much depredation.
An important point to remember is that Eyjafjallajökull has a BIG sister, Katla. Please see recent blog entries regarding the likelihood of Katla's eruption as well as its potentially devastating effects:

Note the sobering warning in the below article, by the renowned vulcanologist that "'The explosive activity of Kalta can be 100 times more" regarding the recent eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland.
"It has been forecast that the volcano will go rumbling on for several weeks or months.
"But even as the latest eruption subsides, magma is circulating, making him and his team fear that it could erupt again at a different spot. His first concern on hearing of this week's eruption, however, was for the people living in the shadow of the "dangerous nearby volcano".
The worst scenario, he said, would be for Eyjafjoell's eruption to spark another in a fierce neighbouring volcano, Katla.
'The explosive activity of Katla can be 100 times more,' he warned."

Notable is the fact that an eruption by Katla has always been preceded by the much less threatenting Eyjafjallajökull's activity (Katla has always followed suit).
If little sis, Eyjafjallajökull, can cause so much damage and loss, just think what will happen when big sister, Katla, blows her top!
It is time to draw near to the Lord, for He alone is our strong tower!!
Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
